Saturday, August 24 - As we were running a lithe short on time on Saturday afternoon, I said to Sandy, "Don't worry -- It's ok if we get to Roanoke a little late. I don't think there's really much to see there. Boy, was I wrong. First, Sandy had booked us at the historic Hotel Roanoke. I had no idea that we'd be arriving at such a landmark. Second, greeting us like a beacon on the hill over the city was the famous Roanoke Star, which has been an icon for the city since 1949. Finally, what a hopping historic downtown on a Saturday night! While we were not up for partying all night, we did take a walk around a few blocks to check it out.
